Minimizing Wrinkles with Neurotoxins

The first neurotoxin to minimize wrinkles was approved by the FDA for cosmetic use over twenty years ago. This is now the most widely known and number one non-invasive aesthetic medical procedure performed in America.

Neurotoxins like Jeuveau, Botox, and Dysport smooth the skin and diminish the overall appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that develop as you age. They are so popular because the treatment is quick, safe, and achieves consistent results when performed by a highly trained medical expert. Our patients also love that it doesn’t require any significant recovery time.

Our skilled injectors are thoroughly trained in both the artistry and technical skills required to achieve a natural, youthful look. The best results are often achieved when a neurotoxin® is used in combination with dermal fillers, such as Revanesse®, Juvederm®, or Radiesse®. Our experts will help you identify the best treatment plan to achieve all your beauty goals.

Neurotoxin FAQs

Before Treatment Instructions

Avoid fish oil supplements, and any medication that can thin your blood such as Aspirin®, Alleve®, Ibuprofen®, Motrin®, or Coumadin® for at least 48 hours prior to receiving Botox®. Also avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to® treatment as alcohol can result in increased bruising.

After Treatment Instructions

Do:
• Stay upright for 4 hours after injection
• Take Tylenol® for any headaches or discomfort as long as you do not have any allergies to Tylenol®
• Contact us immediately if you experience any problems
• Call and schedule your next appointment within 3-4 months

Don’t:
• Lay face down until more than 4 hours after your treatment
• Exercise heavily for 24 hours
• Take any medication that can thin your blood such as Aspirin®, Alleve®, Ibuprofen®, Motrin®, Coumadin®, or Vitamin E for 24 hours after your treatment.
• Rub any of the injection sites for 48 hours after injection.

How long does it take to see the results?

Injections can take four to six days to show significant results. The full benefits of a treatment are typically achieved within two weeks.

What is the downtime after a treatment?

There is little or no down time. Some patients experience mild temporary swelling around the injection sites. It is best to refrain from any medication that acts as a blood thinner (such as Aspirin®, Alleve®, Ibuprofen®, Motrin®, Coumadin®, or fish oils) for one week before your procedure and a minimum of 24 hours after treatment to lessen the risk of bruising.

Will my face look stiff or “frozen”?

No. Our goal is to keep you looking natural. Our skilled medical staff are highly trained to achieve a relaxed, and refreshed look.

What happens when it wears off?

Once the neurotoxin’s effect® wears off, wrinkles will start to reappear.

What is the best age to start neurotoxin injections?

Everyone ages at a different rate because skin aging is due to a combination of sun damage and genetics. If you look in the mirror and see that you are beginning to develop wrinkle lines, neurotoxin injections® can help treat them and prevent new wrinkle lines from forming. The best age to start is when you start to see fine lines and wrinkles beginning to appear on your forehead, or around the eyes (crow’s feet). Many patients start in their mid 20’s and 30’s.

Does this treatment prevent wrinkles?

Yes, neurotoxin injections® can help prevent the development of wrinkles and fine lines. They are available for patients who are at least 18 years old. Preventative, or what is sometimes called “baby” Botox®, typically involves a smaller amount to help keep skin smooth and wrinkle-free.

Is it safe?

The products we use are FDA-approved and provide a safe treatment when used as directed for cosmetic purposes as long as the patient has no medical contraindication (see the list of contraindications below). Rare side effects can involve fever or muscle aches.

If you have any of the following conditions, neurotoxin injections are not recommended.

  • Clients with allergies to human albumin
  • Infection, inflammation, (including acne), or dermatitis of areas to be injected
  • Fever, flu, or cold symptoms
  • Facial asymmetry such as Bell’s Palsy
  • Pregnant or lactating women
  • Clients with neurologic disorders including:
    • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gherig’s Disease)
    • Myasthenia Gravis
    • Lambert Eaton Disorder
    • Multiple Sclerosis
    • Parkinson’s disease

Does it hurt?

Most people say neurotoxin injections are not too uncomfortable. If you are concerned about discomfort, ask us about applying a topical numbing cream to the treatment area one hour before your procedure.
