Before you get a peel

Tell us if you have any history of scarring, frequently experience cold sores, or have had facial X-rays. We also need to know if you are taking any prescription drugs to ensure there is no interaction.

Who is a good candidate for a peel?

Generally, fair-skinned and light-haired patients are better candidates for chemical peels. If you have darker skin, you may also have good results, depending upon the type of problem being treated. Our experts will make sure you get the ideal peel for your skin type and needs.

How long will I peel?

Most people start peeling around day three and continue to peel for three or four days. However, there are many factors that affect how you will peel so each person’s experience is unique. If you have any questions, please call us.

When can I start to wear makeup after a peel?

Do not apply makeup or any topical product on your skin for four hours after the peel solution has been applied to your skin. Not even sunscreen. After four hours complete the post treatment steps that you have been given and then you can apply makeup.

However, we recommend that you avoid using your regular moisturizers until the exfoliation is complete as many skin lotions have alcohol or other ingredients that can dame the skin as it peels and sheds. To achieve the best results possible, please stick to the products in your post-peel package we’ll give you for the first week after your treatment.

Sunscreen?

After your peel your skin will temporarily be more sensitive to the sun. Wear “broad-spectrum” sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or more to protect your skin from the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat is another great way to protect your face after a peel.

How many times a year can I do a peel?

We will work with you to identify the optimum treatment plan to achieve the best results possible. If a series of treatments is recommended, you can receive a VI Peel every 4-6 weeks. Every person’s skin and needs are unique so your expert will work with you to create the optimum skincare plan for your specific needs. As an example, many people receive a VI Peel every three months to maintain healthy skin.
